I can’t believe that Tyler Studio has been open for over 2 years now. When I started acting on my dream to have a Studio/Art Gallery I really questioned my sanity. Here I was almost 70 years old and starting a new business. I have to say many of my friends and family were most supportive. I am sure that I would have folded under the weight of reality had it not be for them. Now I can’t imagine not having the Studio. I paint all of the time and love it. I connect with some awesome artists and help promote Fine Art in Galveston.
With my background in Geriatrics, I am particularly interested in the function of creating art and growth of the mind in the older adult. I have read the work of Gene Cohen a psychologist who researched and wrote about the social effects of creativity on the growth of the brain in older adults. The act of creating something and sharing it with others is actually very healthy. It enhances the flexibility of the brain and reinforces in older adults the use of both sides of their brains.
So whether it is creating a beautiful piece of art, dancing with friends and partners, or preparing a wonderful meal, exercise your creative and social side. Grow your Brain!!
