I was digging around in the back of the storage closet and came across this old friend. I was 11 years old when I painted the “paint by number” I am sure that many of you remember the paint by number kits that were so popular in the Fifties. I was absolutely thrilled when Mom let […]
Painting Portraits
Painting Portraits is a special category of Art. You can paint portraits of people and of course our pets. You can paint a portrait from a photograph, but that is not what I have in mind for this blog. Painting from “life” is the real art. It requires: extensive knowledge & the skill of painting the anatomy of the face and most of all the ability to express the essence and energy of the model. When you combine these skills, they still fall short if the painter can’t tie it all together.
GDN article about Eddie Filer
The article about Eddie’s show in the GDN makes me smile. Over the past 2 years I have met and worked with some very good artists. I am pleased that the GDN did the feature article about Eddie. He is some one to look up to in our Art Community. I know that there are […]
Why do you like Art?
Why do you like Art? Why do I paint? I have read articles by accomplished artists. Most say that you should paint for yourself. I have tried to adopt that thought and behavior, but find that it is only partially true for me. I do need to paint subjects and scenes that please me, but […]
I Paint because I have to.

Do you really believe that You Can’t Teach an Old Dog New Tricks?
There is a lot of negative press about aging. Some of it rings true, but a lot of it comes from ignorance and self defeating predictions. Young and Old alike have for years bought into the adage: You can’t teach and old dog new tricks. But researchers such as Gene D Cohen have proved the […]

Upcoming events at Tyler Studio
I am back, it has taken me a couple of weeks to get into the grove, but I think that I am there. I have cleaned out a lot of the clutter in the Salon and Studio. It is amazing how we accumulate, step over and don’t notice the unnecessary “stuff” in our environment and […]
As Summer 2015 Wanes
I have come to the end of August with mixed emotions. I have so enjoyed the last month up here in the heart of Texas. I have done as I planned, spent the majority of time doing Plein Air paintings. I have completed 8 landscape paintings. As anyone who does Plein Air knows, the hardest […]
