I have been meditating for about 20 years. My methods have evolved over the years, but the quiet and calm that I have that I reaped just keeps getting richer and richer. I find that settling into my meditation time is so easy now compared to how it was when I first started meditating. In the beginning I struggled so with “monkey mind”. Now when the mind is going a thousand miles a minute, I just close my eyes and watch it running here and there; eventually, sometimes sooner than later, my mind settles down. In the beginning, I kept trying to force my mind to go blank, well that just reinforced the Monkey!. Today, I just accept my time alone with my inner self no matter what occurs.
While I was painting Wade Fishing, and was immersing myself in the scene and the painting, I remembered my own experiences wade fishing and how meditative it is. You are out there in the great expanse of the bay. It is so peaceful and soothing. You, the sky and water are one. After you are out there for a bit, you realize that all of your anxiety and troubles have washed away. Wade Fishing is not unlike other solitary activities that people participate in. My best friend crochets, she readily admits that she finds when she is working on one of her projects she goes into a meditative state. I think whether you designate meditative time or participate in a solitary sport, hobby/advocation that allows you to empty your mind of worries, anxieties or mindless “to do lists”, you might consider that are doing meditation. And that is a good thing.
Well enough of that, I want to remind you that I am the featured artist in October for Galveston ArtWalk at G Lee Gallery, 2217 Strand. I will be there Saturday afternoon Oct 2nd for a Meet & Greet. I am also planning on being there the afternoon of Oct 9th for ArtWalk. I hope that you can stop by. The title of the show is Coastal Tides. I think that you will enjoy the show… Look forward to seeing and hearing from you. Susan
