I made one of my mad dashes down to G Lee’s Gallery Thursday and Friday. I needed to hang some new work and of course I had to put this little piece of memory on my panel in the Gallery. There once was a time when you could drive your truck on the beach and have the whole place to yourself. As anyone knows, Galveston has changed. I started going there in the 60’s and moved to the area in the late 8o’s . My memories don’t go as far back as some of my friends, but they go back far enough that I miss the good old days.
Now don’t I sound like some of the old timers, “It aint’ what it used to be” ! BUT I am not consumed with living in the past. There are a lot of wonderful things that we have now in the present. Even though I am an old timer, I enjoy the good parts of change that we get to experience every new day. I am convinced that the future will continue to bring us wonders and I look forward to it.
Have you seen the wonderful murals that are popping up around town? They compliment the tree sculptures and decorated turtles. Just about everywhere that you go, you see things that make you smile. Add that to the wonderful restaurants, the art district downtown and beautiful beach and you have a fantastic weekend or extended vacation.
Be sure that you go to G Lee’s Gallery at 2217 Strand. Besides the fact that I display my work there, Brenda the owner makes sure that there is a wonderful show of local and regional artists for you to enjoy. Currently Nina Struthers has her beautiful etchings and ink paintings on the main wall. Some of them are still for sale. Nina’s work will be up until the next Art Walk the first week of June.
Go to www.tylerstudio.org to see a collection of my work. I am also on Facebook, Linkedin, Instagram and Tweeter.
I hope that you are able to get out and enjoy life. I wish you love and joy. Susan
