Even though this photo is a bit dreary at first glance, it is a huge bright spot to me. Tyler Studio in the Woods is about 7-10 days away from move in! The workers are busy on the inside. They have insulated, painted, & added tract lighting to the studio. The HVAC system was completed yesterday. Now we are waiting for the cabinets and flooring to be added and then I will be able to move my easels and supplies in. None of this can happen to soon for me.
In the meantime, I have been using a buffet in the the living room of our very small main house to work on a commissioned canvas- 3ft x 4ft!. It is the only room in the house with enough light and space to manage this size canvas. Thank goodness, I will be able to finish it in the new studio. I am truly excited about this.
The Iconography workshop is now well underway at the Methodist church in Centerville. I am really enjoying working in the icon style. As most of you are aware, my method of painting is loose and imaginative, while icons tend to be tight and flat. Forcing myself to work in this fashion is a great lesson for me. I have chosen, as the teacher’s illustration Our Lady of the Don. Our Lady of Don is a 14th century Eleusa icon depicting the Virgin Mary with Jesus. The entire process: the small group, the spiritual focus and the circumscribed manner of painting, is all very rewarding.
Next month I hope to be able to report that I have moved into the studio and planning my Spring schedule, including a new series of paintings for my upcoming show at CASA in Bryan.
